Quiet Mark assesses the acoustic performance of air source heat pumps using a
robust and efficient methodology. Instead of conducting individual physical tests for
every installation variation, over 15 years we built leading databases of market-wide
legal declarations of sound power levels for available models which are updated year
on year.
This approach is grounded in the mandatory energy labels required for all major
domestic appliances, including heat pumps, sold in the UK and Europe. These
labels consistently report sound power levels (in decibels) determined according
to specific ISO standards. This standardised testing ensures a level playing
field for comparison across different products within the same category. While
acknowledging that real-world noise levels can vary, Quiet Mark’s assessment
focuses on the standardised dB rating provided on the energy label, reflecting the
controlled conditions of the ISO testing.
